Product overview
UK readers: Follow current RSPB guidance before feeding. Its seed-and-peanut season is 1 November–30 April; it advises avoiding flat-surface feeders. Elsewhere, check local wildlife guidance.
Open, comfortable feeding from every side
This hanging platform bird feeder gives backyard birds an easy-to-see landing and feeding space without a roof or narrow ports. Its square tray works with mixed seed, sunflower seed, nuts, fruit pieces and mealworms, making it a practical choice for a varied backyard flock.
Thoughtful details for everyday birding
- Wide platform: the 12-inch square tray offers room for several small and medium backyard birds.
- 3.5 lb capacity: provides a generous seed area while keeping refilling straightforward.
- Draining mesh floor: lets rainwater pass through and improves airflow around seed.
- Durable outdoor materials: the recycled poly frame and metal mesh are suited to routine outdoor use.
- Stable hanging support: four suspension points meet at a central hook to help the tray hang level.
- Easy access: the open design welcomes cardinals, bluebirds, finches, chickadees and nuthatches.
Installation and use
Hang the feeder from a secure branch, shepherd's hook or feeder station with clear space around the tray. Confirm that all four suspension cables are seated correctly and the tray is level before adding food. Fill only to a shallow, even layer and discard seed that becomes wet or spoiled.
Care & cleaning
Before each refill, remove hulls and old food and check the mesh for blocked drainage. Discard wet, clumped or moldy seed rather than topping it up. A draining tray still needs attention after rain; drainage does not keep exposed food fresh indefinitely.
Brush debris from the mesh and frame, wash accessible surfaces with warm water and a small amount of mild dish soap, then rinse thoroughly. Let the tray and joints dry completely before adding a shallow layer of fresh food. Use only cleaning methods suitable for the feeder materials.
Check the central hook, all four suspension cables, mesh edges and attachment points for looseness or damage. Stop using the feeder until any unsafe support is repaired or replaced. Clear accumulated food from the ground below as part of the same routine.
Follow our step-by-step bird feeder cleaning guide for washing frequency, drying and precautions when disinfection is appropriate.
